STRAFTAT is a snappy, fast paced movement shooter. The best part? Its free.
STRAFTAT does the shooter genre better than most other games I've played. The maps are fun, the characters are silly, skill expression is high, and the maps are ridiculous. There is no ranked scene, which results in the game becoming more about having fun with your friends, and less about climbing an arbitrary ranked ladder.
The soundtrack is phenomenal, but you only get to hear it when you're in the lobby. I wish it was the sort of game where I could listen to music as I play, but it simply isn't. It's the sort of game where sweat is rolling down the sides of my body as I attempt to rush to the center of the map, hell-bent on getting the "Kanye" (a clunky and inaccurate heavy machine gun) before my friend can.
There are plenty of different maps, all with a variety of playstyles. Some of feature large brutalist pillars that the players snipe eachother from, others are much smaller, taking place in a small room with a few grenade spawns. I rarely find myself getting bored playing maps that are too similar.
The movement is fast and fun. I feel like I'm always bouncing off walls, sprint-jumping and rushing towards my enemies (friends?). It is a little irritating that the game doesn't incentivize players to move around, despite the movement being so enjoyable. Oftentimes I'll find my friends crouched & leaning in a dark corner, waiting for me to run by so they can blow me to smithereens. It would be nice to see some sort of incentive to keep them moving.
If you have friends and wish you could shoot them in the head, you should try this game.
