RECURSE: Devlog 1

RECURSE

Recently I had an idea for a non-euclidean game. I wanted some sort of multiplayer mind-fuck where you could be chasing and running from the same person at the same time. I sat down with a good friend for a few hours and we planned out what a 4D game would look like, and we couldn’t really get anywhere substantial. Most 4D games ended up just being simulations or tech-demos, and not actual games. (Meaning there were no problems to solve, and therefore no fun).

This seemed like the next best thing.

RECURSE is non-euclidean in the lightest sense. It’s not hyperbolic or elliptic, but instead there are seamless portals built into each level. This allows me to make some levels that are endless apartment complexes, and some levels that allow users to walk on every surface they see.

The game is impossible to describe in words, so a video will probably do it more justice.

The game is an arena-shooter, taking heavy inspiration from games like Quake 2 and STRAFTAT, and trying to polish out the areas I thought they were lacking in.
